Manufacturing EDI and API integration

Consumer goods, food, technology, industrial and life-science manufacturers. ECOM connects your business with manufacturers through EDI, APIs, managed file transfer and portal automation, integrated with your ERP.

How the exchange works

How manufacturers exchange business documents

Manufacturers trade with customers and with their own suppliers. Forecasts let suppliers plan material and capacity before firm orders arrive, and accurate ship notices let the receiving plant schedule docks and production lines.

Common documents with manufacturers
DocumentWhat it does in this relationship
EDI 830Planning Schedule with Release Capability A rolling forecast of requirements, separating firm quantities from planning quantities.
EDI 850Purchase Order The firm purchase order for parts, materials or finished goods.
EDI 855Purchase Order Acknowledgment The supplier’s confirmation of quantities, prices and delivery dates.
EDI 856Advance Ship Notice The ship notice, with packaging and lot or serial details where the customer requires them.
EDI 810Invoice The invoice, matched against the order and the receipt.

What onboarding a new manufacturing partner usually involves

  1. Agree which forecast and order documents each customer or supplier sends, and how often.
  2. Map part numbers, units of measure and lot or serial data between both systems.
  3. Test forecast changes and order revisions as well as new orders, since they drive production plans.
