EDI modernization

Modernize legacy EDI without disrupting your partners

Legacy EDI systems often run critical revenue flows on unsupported software, custom scripts and knowledge held by a few people. ECOM helps you modernize step by step, moving maps, partners and processes to a modern platform while keeping production stable.

What is EDI modernization?

EDI modernization is the process of updating an organization's EDI and B2B integration capabilities, typically by migrating from older translators and on-premises software to a modern platform. It also includes adding API support, improving monitoring, standardizing maps and processes, and reducing dependence on custom code and individual experts.

Outcomes

What you can expect

01

Reduced operational risk

Move off unsupported software and undocumented scripts before they fail.

02

New capabilities

Add APIs, real-time visibility and automation that older platforms cannot support.

03

Lower maintenance effort

Standardized maps and processes are easier to support and change.

Approach

How ECOM delivers it

  • Current-state assessment

Inventory partners, documents, maps, connections, volumes and custom code.

  • Target architecture

Recommend a platform and delivery model, from iPaaS to fully managed.

  • Map conversion and redesign

Convert maps where practical and redesign those that carry technical debt.

  • Phased migration

Move partners in planned waves with parallel testing and partner communication.

  • Decommissioning

Retire legacy servers, scripts and licenses once migration is complete.

Scenarios

Common scenarios

Gentran and older translators

Move off end-of-life EDI software that no longer receives vendor support.

ERP replacement

Modernize EDI alongside an ERP migration to avoid rebuilding integrations twice.

Consolidating platforms

Combine several EDI systems from different business units into one.

Frequently asked questions

Do we have to migrate all partners at once?

No. A phased approach is usually safer, moving groups of partners or documents in waves with testing and rollback plans.

Will our trading partners need to change anything?

Sometimes connection details change, such as AS2 identifiers or certificates. ECOM coordinates those changes with each partner.

Can you modernize IBM Sterling environments?

Yes. ECOM supports upgrades of IBM Sterling B2B Integrator and File Gateway as well as migrations to PRISM.
