Walmart Marketplace integration for sellers
A guide for sellers connecting Walmart Marketplace orders, inventory and fulfillment to their ERP, warehouse and other sales channels.
Overview
Understanding Walmart Marketplace integration
Who this is for: Brands and retailers selling as third-party sellers on Walmart Marketplace, and the operations teams that manage their channels.
Walmart Marketplace lets third-party sellers list products on Walmart.com, and it is integrated through APIs rather than EDI. Walmart's developer documentation describes an Orders API for retrieving orders, acknowledging them, and updating shipping, cancellation and refund status, and an Inventory API for reading and updating quantities by item and ship node, which represents a fulfillment location.
Orders move through defined statuses, starting with created orders that sellers acknowledge before fulfilling and confirming shipment. Items must be set up and registered before their inventory can be managed, and sellers must obtain API credentials before making requests. Walmart also announces platform changes on its developer portal, such as API version transitions and security protocol updates, which integrations need to keep up with.
Marketplace selling is separate from supplying Walmart as a wholesale vendor, which uses EDI. Companies doing both maintain two integrations: marketplace APIs for direct-to-consumer orders and EDI for Walmart's own purchase orders.
